Vintage Japanese Hand-Painted Porcelain Plate with Geisha Scenes, Early Showa Period
circa 1930s
A decorative vintage Japanese porcelain plate dating to the early Showa period, likely circa 1930s. This hand-painted plate features a finely arranged multi-panel design with elegant geisha figures, a seated noblewoman with attendant, a boat scene, birds, reeds and softly painted mountain landscapes.
The decoration is executed in iron red, black, pale green and soft blue tones, with delicate gilt accents and raised moriage-style detailing. The varied panels create a balanced composition, combining figural scenes with floral and landscape elements typical of Japanese export porcelain made for Western collectors during the early 20th century.
The reverse is marked with a red leaf-shaped cartouche containing gold characters. The exact artist or workshop has not been confirmed, but the mark and decorative style add further interest for collectors of Japanese porcelain, Kutani-style ceramics and early Showa period export ware.
