Large Vintage Japanese Kutani Porcelain Vase, Gilt Landscape, 27cm
circa 1970s
A striking vintage Japanese Kutani porcelain vase, dating to the ShĹŤwa period, circa 1970s. The large rounded body is hand-painted with a continuous Japanese landscape scene featuring pine trees, a watermill, mountains and flowing water, enriched with warm gilt ground, fine linework and coloured enamel detailing.
The vase has a generous globular form with a low mouth, giving it strong decorative presence as a display piece. The soft blue-grey landscape tones, rust-red and green accents, and extensive gilding create an elegant balance between traditional Japanese scenery and later 20th-century Kutani decorative richness.

Historical and Collector Context:
Kutani ware is one of Japan’s best-known porcelain traditions, produced in Ishikawa Prefecture and admired for its rich enamel decoration, bold colour and decorative variety. By the Shōwa period, Kutani workshops continued to produce highly decorative pieces for both the Japanese domestic market and export, often combining traditional landscape subjects with bright gilding and finely painted detail.
This vase belongs to that decorative Kutani tradition: visually strong, generous in scale and very suitable as a statement display piece. The landscape with pine trees, water, mountains and a watermill gives the vase a calm, classically Japanese character, while the gilt ground adds warmth and display appeal.
A beautiful large Kutani vase for collectors of Japanese porcelain or for anyone seeking an elegant decorative centrepiece with traditional Japanese landscape imagery.
