Vintage Japanese Soko China Satsuma-Style Floral Plate, c.1930s–1940s
Soko China · c. 1930s-1940s
A vibrant vintage Japanese Soko China Satsuma-style plate, dating to the early Showa period, circa 1930s–1940s. The plate is richly decorated with a dense arrangement of chrysanthemums and other blossoms in warm shades of yellow, white, pink and orange, enhanced with finely applied enamel and gilt detailing.
The softly crackled earthenware surface provides a characteristic backdrop for the floral composition, while the gently shaped border is finished with delicate gold accents. Measuring 17 cm in diameter, the plate has a pleasing decorative presence and is well suited to cabinet display, presentation on a stand or inclusion within a collection of early 20th-century Japanese ceramics.
The underside bears a Soko China Hand Painted Satsuma mark with gilt script and Japanese characters.

Historical and Collector Context
Soko China was a westernised trade name associated with Japanese decorative Satsuma-style wares produced during the early Showa period. The name is linked with the mark 湊光, read as Minato Hikari or Hikaru. Despite the use of the word China in the trade name, pieces of this type were commonly made from glazed earthenware pottery rather than porcelain.
This plate is particularly attractive for its dense floral composition, warm colour palette and finely applied gilt accents. Its practical 17 cm diameter makes it a versatile decorative piece for a cabinet, display stand or curated collection of Japanese export ceramics.
All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
