Antique Japanese Satsuma-Style Hand-Painted Figural Cup, Signed Omura 大村, Early 20th Century
Omura (大村) · Early 20th century
A finely decorated antique Japanese Satsuma-style handled cup dating to the early twentieth century. The exterior is richly hand-painted with expressive figural portraits, stylised textile patterns and extensive gold gilt detail. A further seated figure is painted within the interior of the cup, adding an unusual and particularly attractive decorative element.
The base bears a gilt signature within a red rectangular reserve, tentatively read as Omura (大村). With its detailed figural decoration and warm gilt finish, this small cup has strong visual appeal as a cabinet display piece and an interesting addition to a curated collection of early Japanese ceramics.

Historical and Collector Context
Elaborately decorated Japanese Satsuma-style ceramics became popular during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, particularly among export buyers attracted to their detailed figural scenes, intricate pattern work and rich gilding.
The signature on this cup is tentatively read as Omura (大村), although the precise reading has not been conclusively documented. Its expressive portrait decoration, extensive gilding and unusual interior figure give the piece a distinctive character despite the historic rim repair.
