Japanese Satsuma-Style Landscape Plate Signed Yuzan 由山, Early 20th Century
Yuzan · Early 20th century
A finely decorated Japanese Satsuma-style landscape plate, dating to the early 20th century, likely the late Meiji to Taisho period. The plate features a tranquil mountainous landscape with traditional Japanese houses, a small bridge, calm water and delicately rendered trees in a softly muted palette.
Fine gilt highlights define the architecture, foliage and surrounding details, while a narrow geometric border frames the composition. The subtle craquelure glaze and restrained use of colour give the plate an elegant and atmospheric quality, making it particularly suitable for cabinet display or presentation on a stand.
The underside bears a gilt 由山 signature on a dark red cartouche, read as Yuzan.

Historical and Collector Context
Satsuma-style ceramics became widely popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly through decorative wares created for international buyers. These pieces often combined softly crackled earthenware surfaces with hand-painted landscapes, architectural scenes and delicate gilt detailing.
This plate is particularly appealing for its balanced landscape composition, refined gold accents and signed Yuzan mark. Its 19 cm diameter makes it well suited to display within a collection of Japanese decorative ceramics or as an elegant standalone cabinet piece.
All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
