Historical and Collector Context

Imari porcelain is associated with the Arita region of Japan and takes its name from the nearby port of Imari, through which these wares were historically distributed. Decorative Imari porcelain became admired for its vibrant enamel colours, gilt highlights and richly detailed floral and bird designs.

This octagonal dish is an attractive early 20th-century example, combining a traditional Imari-inspired palette with a particularly appealing floral basket and bird composition. Its distinctive shape and balanced decoration make it suitable for display in a collection of Japanese porcelain, antique tableware or Asian decorative arts.
