Early 20th-Century Japanese Satsuma-Style Hand-Painted Mount Fuji and Cherry Blossom Plate
1920-1940
A finely decorated early 20th-century Japanese Satsuma-style plate featuring a tranquil landscape scene with Mount Fuji, flowering cherry blossom branches and traditional Japanese architecture. The composition is enhanced with delicate gilt accents and a softly crackled glaze, creating an elegant decorative surface with depth and visual warmth.
Measuring approximately 21 cm in diameter, the plate is a versatile display piece suitable for a cabinet collection, wall display or curated Japanese-inspired interior. The shaped rim and balanced scenic composition give the piece a distinctive character, while the Japanese character stamp to the reverse adds further interest.

Historical and Collector Context
Satsuma-style ceramics became widely recognised for their finely crackled glaze, decorative overglaze painting and gilt detailing. Although the tradition originated in southern Japan, the Satsuma aesthetic was later interpreted by workshops in different regions and remained popular in decorative export ceramics into the 20th century.
This plate is particularly appealing for its classic Japanese landscape composition. Mount Fuji and flowering cherry blossoms are enduring motifs in Japanese decorative art, while the traditional architecture and restrained gilt highlights give the scene a calm and refined presence. As the visible character stamp has not been attributed to a specific workshop, the maker remains unidentified.
All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
