Antique Japanese Moji 84 Silver Dragon-Handle Spoons, Set of Five

Early 20th century

$545AUD

A striking antique Japanese set of five silver souvenir spoons, dating to the early 20th century and marked MOJI and 84. Each spoon features an intricately modelled dragon handle with detailed scales, expressive facial features and an openwork upper section, creating a dramatic and highly decorative presentation.

The bowls are individually engraved with layered floral motifs, while the reverse of each spoon displays a radiating sunburst-style design. The combination of sculptural dragon handles, carefully worked floral bowls and aged silver patina gives the set considerable character and makes it especially attractive for display.

The MOJI mark is associated with Moji Port on the northern coast of Kyushu, an important Japanese international trading port during the late Meiji and early 20th-century period. The separate 84 mark is retained as stamped. As the precise silver standard has not been independently tested, the material is described conservatively as silver marked 84.

Historical and Collector Context

Moji Port, now known as Mojiko, developed as an international trading port in northern Kyushu from the late 19th century onward. Decorative souvenir objects marked MOJI were produced for visitors and international buyers during the period of expanding trade between Japan and overseas markets.

Silver spoons of this type are particularly appealing for their combination of Japanese dragon imagery, detailed hand-finished decoration and export-era history. The matched group of five spoons offers a strong visual presentation and would make an attractive addition to a collection of Japanese silver, antique souvenir spoons or Asian decorative tableware.

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
