Antique Burmese Silver Bowl, Hand-Chased Birds and Foliage, c.1900
c.1900
A finely decorated antique Burmese silver bowl, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, with richly hand-chased birds and stylised foliage panels.
The bowl has a compact circular form with dense repoussé, chased and engraved decoration across both the exterior and interior. The outer wall is divided into decorative panels, each worked with birds among scrolling foliage, framed by beaded borders and finely detailed ornamental bands. The interior continues the decorative treatment, giving the piece strong visual appeal despite its small scale.

Historical and Collector Context:
Burmese silver from the late 19th and early 20th century is valued for its highly detailed surface work, often combining repoussé, chasing and engraving to create dense decorative scenes. Unlike plain European silver, Burmese silver was usually made to be richly ornamental, with decoration covering much of the surface.
Birds, foliage and scrolling natural forms are typical motifs in Burmese and Southeast Asian silverwork. These designs give the piece movement and texture, while the small scale makes it an attractive collector’s bowl, cabinet piece or decorative accent.
A charming antique Burmese silver bowl with fine hand-worked detail, ideal for collectors of Southeast Asian silver, Burmese metalwork or small decorative antique silver pieces.
