Large Vintage Dutch 833 Silver Windmill Presentation Spoon with Movable Sails, Mid-20th Century

Mid-20th century

$635AUD

An impressive vintage Dutch 833 silver presentation spoon featuring a richly detailed rural landscape and an articulated windmill finial with movable sails. Measuring approximately 26.5 cm in length, this substantial decorative spoon combines traditional Dutch motifs with intricate silver craftsmanship.

The large pierced bowl depicts a pastoral scene with a grazing cow, water, farm buildings and a windmill in the distance, surrounded by flowing openwork scrolls and foliate decoration. The twisted stem is enhanced with ornamental mask motifs and rises to a sculptural windmill terminal. The sails move freely, adding a playful mechanical detail to an already distinctive display piece.

With its generous scale, substantial silver weight and highly decorative form, this presentation spoon would make an appealing addition to a collection of Dutch silver, figural silverware or unusual European decorative objects.

Historical and Collector Context

Decorative Dutch silver spoons were often created as presentation pieces, display objects and souvenirs of regional craftsmanship. Windmills, rural landscapes and agricultural scenes are among the most recognisable motifs associated with the Netherlands and appear frequently in Dutch decorative silver.

This substantial example is particularly appealing for its richly worked pierced bowl and sculptural windmill finial with articulated sails. The combination of traditional imagery, openwork decoration and movable elements gives the spoon a distinctive character beyond its practical origins. Although the maker has not been identified, the 833 silver standard and Dutch decorative style place it firmly within the tradition of Continental European silver presentation pieces.

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
