Vintage Chinese Famille Rose Covered Ginger Jar with Qianlong Mark, Yellow Ground, 10 cm

Mid-late 20ᵗʰ century

$75AUD

A charming vintage Chinese famille rose covered ginger jar dating to the mid-to-late 20th century, decorated in bright Canton palette enamels on a lemon-yellow scroll ground.

This petite porcelain jar features two heart-shaped reserves, each painted with a young scholar or attendant seated beside tray tables and bonsai. The yellow ground is enriched with scrolling decoration, pink ruyi borders and gilt highlights, giving the piece a colourful and decorative Chinese export-style character.

The base bears a red overglaze four-character Qianlong mark reading 乾隆年製, Qianlong nian zhi, meaning “Made during the Qianlong period”. This mark should be understood as a later decorative homage mark rather than an indication that the piece was made during the 18th-century Qianlong reign.

Historical and Collector Context

Famille rose porcelain became one of the most recognisable decorative styles associated with Chinese ceramics, admired for its soft pink, green, yellow and turquoise enamel palette. During the 20th century, Chinese kilns continued to produce decorative porcelain pieces inspired by earlier Qing dynasty forms and marks, often using reign marks such as Qianlong nian zhi as homage or decorative references.

This small covered ginger jar is a pleasing mid-to-late 20th-century decorative example, appealing for its bright yellow ground, famille rose enamels, scholar panels and compact display size. It would suit collectors of vintage Chinese porcelain, famille rose ceramics, chinoiserie décor or small cabinet display pieces.

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
