Vintage Chinese Jingdezhen Famille Jaune Lidded Jar, c.1970s
c.1970s
A charming vintage Chinese porcelain lidded jar, made in Jingdezhen and likely dating to the 1970s.
The petite jar is richly decorated in a Famille Jaune-inspired palette, with colourful floral and scrolling motifs set against a luminous yellow ground. Dark enamel outlines bring definition to the flowers and stylised foliage, while touches of pink, turquoise, blue and green create a lively decorative contrast.
The original fitted lid continues the same floral-scroll design, giving the jar a beautifully balanced appearance from every angle. Its compact size and vibrant colour make it an appealing accent for a display cabinet, shelf or carefully styled interior.
The underside bears a red overglaze 中国景德镇 / MADE IN CHINA export mark.

Historical and Collector Context
Jingdezhen has been celebrated as the porcelain capital of China for centuries, with a ceramic tradition extending back more than 1,700 years. Its workshops produced porcelain for imperial, domestic and international markets, and the city remains closely associated with the history of Chinese ceramic craftsmanship.
The term Famille Jaune refers to porcelain decoration characterised by a rich yellow ground combined with colourful enamel motifs. This petite vintage jar reflects that enduring decorative tradition in a bright and accessible mid-to-late 20th-century form.
With its cheerful yellow palette, floral-scroll decoration and clearly marked Jingdezhen origin, the jar would make a charming addition to a collection of Chinese porcelain, vintage Asian decorative objects or colourful chinoiserie-inspired interiors.
