Antique George III Sterling Silver Sugar Caster, London 1813, Floral Chased, 13.5 cm

1813

$585AUD

A fine antique George III sterling silver sugar caster, hallmarked in London in 1813.

This elegant early 19th-century English silver caster has a classic baluster form, with a removable pierced lid, shaped finial and circular foot with reeded border. The body is decorated with richly chased floral and scroll motifs, giving the piece a refined Georgian table silver character. An engraved crest to the body adds a personal period detail and a sense of historical charm.

Compact yet decorative, this caster would have been used for serving sugar, powdered sugar or spices at the table. Today, it is equally appealing as a collectible example of Georgian sterling silver, a cabinet display piece or a refined addition to a traditional silver collection.

Historical and Collector Context

Sugar casters, also known as muffineers, were popular pieces of Georgian table silver, used for sprinkling sugar, powdered sugar or spices during formal dining and tea service. Their pierced lids allowed fine contents to be shaken evenly, while their decorative forms made them attractive features of the table.

This London 1813 example reflects the refined taste of the George III period, with its baluster body, chased floral ornament, pierced cover and engraved crest. Although the maker’s mark is not confidently identified, the piece remains an attractive and collectible example of early 19th-century English sterling silver.

It would suit collectors of Georgian silver, London hallmarked silver, antique tableware, sugar casters, muffineers or decorative British silver.

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
