Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Salt Cellars Set of 4 by Horace Woodward & Co Ltd, London 1895
Horace Woodward & Co Ltd · 1895
A fine set of four antique Victorian sterling silver open salt cellars by Horace Woodward & Co Ltd, hallmarked in London in 1895.
Each salt cellar is crafted in solid sterling silver and decorated with ornate repoussé foliate scrollwork, giving the set a rich late Victorian table silver character. The cellars stand on three rounded ball feet and have warm gilded interiors, designed both for decorative contrast and to help protect the silver from salt contact.
Complete sets of four sterling silver salt cellars are especially appealing for formal dining, display and collecting, offering a more impressive presentation than a single pair. With their London 1895 hallmarks, recognised Horace Woodward maker’s mark and well-preserved gilded interiors, this set is a refined example of late 19th-century English table silver.

Historical and Collector Context
Horace Woodward & Co Ltd was a recognised British silversmithing firm active during the late 19th century, with London marks registered in the 1890s. The firm produced a range of domestic and decorative silver wares, including table pieces, condiment wares and presentation items.
Open salt cellars were an important part of the Victorian dining table, used before modern salt shakers became standard. Sterling silver examples were often gilded inside to protect the silver surface and provide a more luxurious table presentation.
This 1895 set is appealing for its complete four-piece format, richly worked repoussé decoration, gilded interiors and clear London hallmarking. It would suit collectors of Victorian sterling silver, Horace Woodward silver, antique tableware, formal dining accessories or refined British silver display pieces.
All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
