Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot by William Oliver, Birmingham 1906, with Associated Spoon

William Oliver · 1906

$345AUD

A charming antique Edwardian sterling silver mustard pot by William Oliver, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1906, accompanied by an associated later sterling silver spoon by James Dixon & Sons Ltd.

The mustard pot has a decorative repoussé body with floral scrollwork, a hinged lid, scrolled thumb rest and blank cartouche. Its compact form and ornate surface detail give it a refined early 20th-century English table silver character.

The accompanying spoon is hallmarked Sheffield 1920 by James Dixon & Sons Ltd. It is not original to the 1906 mustard pot, but complements the piece well for display.

Historical and Collector Context

Mustard pots were a familiar part of the British dining table during the Victorian and Edwardian periods, used for serving prepared mustard alongside other condiments. Sterling silver examples were often made with hinged covers and fitted glass liners, which helped protect the silver interior from mustard contact.

This example was made by William Oliver, a Birmingham silversmith active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The pot is hallmarked Birmingham 1906, placing it in the Edwardian period, while the associated spoon by James Dixon & Sons Ltd adds a later Sheffield silver connection.

Although offered without its original liner, the piece remains appealing as a decorative Edwardian silver condiment pot with attractive repoussé scrollwork and a later sterling silver spoon. It would suit collectors of British sterling silver, Edwardian tableware, condiment pieces, small silver display items or Birmingham hallmarked silver.

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
