Antique Russian 84 Silver Cream Jug, Kokoshnik Mark, c.1908–1917
Circa 1908–1917
A refined antique Russian 84 silver cream jug, dating to the late Imperial period, circa 1908–1917. Beautifully shaped with a spiral fluted body, scalloped rim and elegant scroll handle, this small silver jug is a charming example of early 20th-century Russian table silver.
The jug is crafted from 84 zolotnik silver, equivalent to 875/1000 purity. It has a rounded, spiralled body standing on a circular foot, with a graceful handle and softly shaped pouring rim. The compact size and decorative form make it ideal for display, while still retaining the practical character of a traditional cream or milk jug.
The piece is marked with the Russian 84 kokoshnik standard mark, associated with the late Imperial hallmarking system introduced in 1908. The maker’s initials appear to read HM / НМ, though the individual silversmith has not been firmly identified.

Historical and Collector Context:
Russian 84 silver is one of the most recognised silver standards of Imperial Russia. The number 84 refers to the zolotnik system and corresponds to 875/1000 silver purity. The kokoshnik mark, showing a female head in traditional Russian headdress, became an important hallmarking feature from the end of the 19th century and continued in modified form into the early 20th century.
This cream jug is especially appealing for its late Imperial date, clear 84 silver mark and elegant spiral fluted form. While the maker remains unidentified, the piece has strong decorative and collector appeal as an authentic example of Russian silver tableware from the final years of the Imperial period.
A beautiful addition to a Russian silver collection, antique tea service display or curated table silver setting.
