Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot by Charles Boyton II, London 1881, with Cobalt Glass Liner and Spoon

Charles Boyton II · 1881

$585AUD

A finely decorated antique Victorian sterling silver mustard pot by Charles Boyton II, hallmarked in London in 1881.

This elegant oval mustard pot is richly worked with repoussé floral garlands and scroll decoration, giving it a refined late 19th-century table silver character. The hinged sterling silver lid repeats the floral motif and is finished with a shaped thumbpiece and spoon opening.

The pot retains its cobalt blue glass liner, which provides a striking contrast against the polished silver. Also included is a later associated sterling silver condiment spoon by Francis Howard, hallmarked in Sheffield in 1927, in the Old English pattern.

Historical and Collector Context

Charles Boyton II was part of a well-known London silversmithing family whose work is associated with high-quality Victorian and Edwardian silver. The Boyton name appears on a wide range of British silver wares, including table silver, decorative objects and personal accessories.

Mustard pots were an important part of the Victorian dining table, often made with blue glass liners to protect the silver from condiment staining while adding a strong decorative contrast. This example is especially appealing for its London 1881 hallmark, floral repoussé decoration, cobalt liner and additional sterling silver spoon.

The later Francis Howard spoon, hallmarked in Sheffield in 1927, complements the pot as a practical condiment spoon while adding further British silver interest.

This piece would suit collectors of Victorian sterling silver, Charles Boyton silver, antique condiment wares, cobalt glass-lined mustard pots or refined English table silver.

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
