Antique Victorian Gaudy Ware Mustard and Salt Pots, c.1860s–1880s

c.1860s–1880s

$85AUD

A charming pair of antique Victorian British condiment pots, likely dating to the late 19th century, circa 1860s–1880s. The set includes a salt or pepper shaker with a pierced lid and a matching mustard pot with a hinged lid and spoon slot.

Each ceramic pot is decorated by hand in an Imari-inspired palette of deep cobalt blue, iron red and subtle gilt highlights over a white ground. The faceted bodies feature stylised floral motifs and contrasting cobalt panels, while the fitted metal lids retain an attractive natural patina consistent with age.

Historical and Collector Context

Gaudy Ware, often associated with the broader Gaudy Welsh tradition, was produced in Britain during the 19th century and drew inspiration from imported Japanese Imari porcelain. Its decorative appeal lies in the bold contrast between underglaze cobalt blue and brightly coloured overglaze floral motifs.

These petite condiment pots retain their original character through their matching faceted bodies and fitted silver-plated lids. They would make an appealing addition to a collection of Victorian tableware, British ceramics or Imari-inspired decorative ware.

Please Note

All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
