Historical and Collector Context
Henry Matthews was a Birmingham silversmith active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, producing a wide range of silver objects including dressing table wares, boxes, frames, scent bottles, tea service pieces and trays. His work is often associated with finely detailed decorative silver suitable for both practical use and display.
This 1910 tray reflects the Edwardian taste for ornate repoussé silver, with its floral scrollwork, shaped edge and decorative central cartouche. Although the rim shows age-related cracking, the piece remains an attractive example of early 20th-century Birmingham sterling silver and would suit collectors of British silver, Henry Matthews pieces, Edwardian table silver or decorative Art Nouveau-style silverware.
All items are vintage or antique and may show light signs of age. Please review all photos carefully as they form part of the description. Feel free to message with any questions prior to purchase.
