Antique Barbour Silver Co Quadruple Plated Jewellery Box, c.1900
An elegant antique American silver-plated jewellery box by Barbour Silver Co., featuring beautifully engraved floral decoration, richly ornamented sides and a charming peach-coloured fabric-lined interior.
Dating to approximately 1895–1915, this attractive rectangular box reflects the decorative craftsmanship and elaborate styling popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
The hinged lid is adorned with finely engraved scrolling foliage, stylised flowers and a central decorative cartouche, framed by an elegant scalloped border. The design is delicately balanced, with graceful curves and intricate detailing that give the box a refined appearance.
The sides feature elaborate raised floral and scrollwork decoration, with richly textured patterns and small ornamental cartouches. Four decorative feet elevate the box, adding to its distinctive period character.
Opening the hinged lid reveals a peach-coloured fabric lining, which appears to be an early or possibly original fitting. The aged textile adds historical interest to the piece, although it shows considerable wear.
The underside bears the circular manufacturer's mark of Barbour Silver Co., with the designation "Quadruple", identifying the silver-plated construction.

Historical Context
Barbour Silver Co. was established in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1892 and became one of the companies incorporated into the International Silver Company in 1898.
The firm was known for producing both silver-plated and sterling silver wares, including decorative household objects and ornamental pieces.
The term "Quadruple Plate" was used to describe a higher grade of silver plating, reflecting the emphasis placed on decorative quality and durable finishes in American silver-plated goods of the period. It does not indicate solid silver.
Decorative jewellery boxes and dresser accessories became fashionable during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, when finely ornamented metalwork was often used to store jewellery, keepsakes and small personal possessions.
A Charming Antique Keepsake
With its intricate floral decoration, ornamental feet and attractive period design, this Barbour Silver Co. jewellery box is a lovely example of American antique decorative metalwork.
A characterful addition to a collection of Victorian silver-plated wares, antique jewellery boxes or traditional dressing-table accessories.
